- Morocco 20/1
- Iran 40/1
World Cup Group B Qualification
Spain made light work of their group, a particularly weak one. Aside from Italy (unbeaten in two games), they were faced with Albania, Israel, Macedonia and Liechtenstein. It’s difficult to draw too much from this campaign, even the results against the Azzurri as they failed to qualify for the tournament proper.
Group Stats = W9, D1, 36F, 3A
Portugal lost 1 game and won the other 9 against Switzerland, Hungary, Faroe Islands, Latvia and Andorra. Obviously still on a high following their Euro 2016 victory, they finished with a positive goal difference and obviously possess Ronaldo. Whether slightly on the decline or preparing to peak for the tournament which we have seen before through his training/preparation.
Group Stats = W9, L1, 32F, 4A
Morocco qualified from a group of Ivory Coast, Gabon and Mali. Not the most difficult of opposition but they did it without loss and without conceding a single goal. The level of football in Africa is probably the most difficult to put a rating on but suffice to say that away trips aren’t a bed of roses, ever.
Group Stats = 3W, 3D, 11F, 0A
Iran were impressive taking an average of over two points a game from their ten against South Korea, Syria, Uzbekistan, China and Qatar. They went unbeaten against that group and conceded just two goals, that is serious form.
Group Stats = 6W, 4D, 10F, 2A
World Cup Acca Theory
At this stage with the limited amount of markets to bet into, there isn’t anything particularly appealing. What we do know is that closer to the time of the tournament, we’ll have markets like Team X Total Group Points, Team X Total Group Goals etc. Then we may have options for siding with Iran and the overs. They are undervalued and probably always will be simply because of geographical location and lack of exposure to European fans and bettors. Their opening match is against Morocco and it is basically a must win to give them any chance of progressing. There isn’t much between these teams and the odds of 10/11 (1.91) for Iran +0.25 on the Asian Handicap are tempting.
Currently on our radar is the possibility of taking on Portugal. Backing them at big prices not to qualify from the group. Ronaldo’s form is massively important to the bet obviously and therefore it would be prudent to make a decision closer to the tournament starting. Currently, 4/1 (5.00) is available and even now, it wouldn’t represent a terrible bet given they only have three games to make it count.
